What Is The Difference Between Micro-needling And Nano-needling?
Micro-needling and Nano-needling are two procedures that_ sound the same and are even applied in the same way, but actually have more differences than similarities. Today, we’re discussing the differences between micro-needling and nano-needling and what they help with. If you want to learn more about these or any other types of treatments, please don’t hesitate to set up an appointment with us.
What Is Micro-needling and Collagen Induction Therapy at Eagle Acupuncture?
In Idaho, only doctors are permitted to use medical grade micro-needling for the patient. Micro-needling is the process of using many small, hair follicle sized needles to repeatedly penetrate the skin’s surface, causing micro-lacerations. These miniature “wounds” then cause the skin’s natural healing response to occur which greatly boosts skin production of helpful substances like collagen which leaves the skin looking smoother, tighter, and younger.
With Micro-needling, the top layer of the skin is penetrated without being damaged, leaving the skin intact. It does not “burn” your skin like peels and some laser treatments. The needle penetration depth can be adjusted from 0.25mm to 2.50mm into the skin depending on the area of the body and the skin condition being treated. Using skin needling consistently will trigger the body's repair process and will leave the skin rejuvenated.
Micro-needling results in the production of new collagen and elastin, improvement in skin tone and texture, firmness as well as reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.
Our equipment is the most sophisticated equipment available and this makes all the difference when it comes to:
Downtime, pain experienced and results
Uses: helps to address deeper skin issues like stretch marks, scars, wrinkles, etc.
More of a medical procedure than a spa-type cosmetic or strictly cosmetic treatment
Needle depth up to 2.5 mm depending on body part
Up to 48 hour downtime and recovery, however, at Eagle Acupuncture due to the sophistication of our training and instruments there is no downtime. We only ask that patients do not wear makeup for 48 hours (other than mascara and eyeshadow)
Do not use skincare for 24 hours and sleep on a clean pillowcase.
Increases absorption of skincare products (ours are natural and vegan) by 2,000%
With our expertise and advanced training we do not require topical anesthetic- for real! We have it available but guarantee a pain-free experience! If you have had pain in the past with micro-needling, you will be shocked at the difference here. Only a mild sunburn feeling afterwards for a few hours.
Offers treatment in hair regrowth for men, and women with alopecia, PCOS, stress, post partum and thyroid conditions.
Requires more training and should be done by a licensed professional
As of 2020, estheticians cannot perform injectables, even under a doctor's supervision. Additionally, laws changed and estheticians can no longer provide medical grade micro-needling in Idaho unless under the direct supervision of a doctor within the office. Many providers still use the language "micro-needling" in their advertisements but if they are following the laws, the level is surface level.
What Is Nano-needling?
Nano-needling on the other hand works a little different. It does use the same type of motion to treat the skin but the machine used is different, using silicone tips instead. These microscopic hair-like cones separate the cells within the epidermis to allow active products to be pushed into the skin. Nano-needling only reaches the epidermis, treating within the upper .15 mm of the skin. The benefits of this serum infusion treatment include pigmentation reduction, increased cell turnover, skin rejuvenation and an immediate glow with no downtime. This treatment can be done weekly to exfoliate the skin.
Similar to micro-needling, nano-needling uses tiny needles to repeatedly penetrate the skin to promote a positive effect, however they are very different in what they treat and how they impact the skin. Nano-needling is more of a cosmetic procedure than a medical procedure like its micro counterpart. It penetrates far less deeply in the skin and is only for superficial applications. Ask your practitioner how much training and certification they have before deciding to go through with a treatment.
Helps address very surface level cosmetic issues
Increases absorption of skincare products by 50%
Only reaches the top .15 mm of skin
Helps to promote healthier looking skin by increasing serum transfusion effectiveness
Requires less training and education. Should only be performed on you by someone who is a trusted professional.
Helps reduce hyperpigmentation severity and other surface level skin issues
Little to no downtime after treatments with a typical session. Can be done every 2 weeks or so compared to the once monthly of true, medical, micro-needling
